Time to Prepare: Advent
December will be here in a couple of months, and it is time to get Advent and Christmas ready. Some are already buying Christmas gifts ahead of the holiday frenzy.
Ahead of the holidays, Immanuel is creating a special Advent devotional booklet that will span from the first Sunday of Advent til Christmas Day. It is titled, “Unexpected: Advent Stories from Our Community,” expressions of God showing up in unexpected ways.
The scriptures convey the theme of the unexpected through the unfolding of the Advent of Jesus in divine movements: a long season of waiting, angels bring messages and sing glories, babies are born from unlikely women, shepherds and magi search for an infant king, a significant natal star appears in the heavens, and the list goes on. Our world has never been the same since Jesus came as Immanuel, God with us.
Each of us has our own stories of unexpected encounters with God that have left us forever changed. Would you be open to sharing your experience? You are encouraged to share your experience through writing, art, poetry, music, or other creative media.
If you want to contribute, contact Jackie or Pastor Kim, and we will assign you a scripture passage to guide you. Then, let us know if there is a way to best help you. Submissions are due by October 25.
May God inspire your creativity in unexpected ways.
